Martin County officials have mistakenly allowed concrete homes to sprout in mobile-home parks across the county, even though such construction violates county zoning rules.
Until the county’s top building official discovered the error in August, property owners in communities such as Ridgeway in Hobe Sound and River Forest south of Stuart have been given permits to build concrete “tilt-up” homes — homes with exterior panels that are manufactured off-site but which require construction when they’re installed — on land zoned for mobile homes.

While the Planning Commission heard public comments about changes in regulating storage of recreational vehicles, members acknowledged they were not much closer to a solution.
The issue of RV storage in residential areas was raised two months ago, when Douglas Kuipers, of 4560 Missaukee St. SW, requested a review of the RV storage ordinance. He noted the rules made no allowance for packing or unpacking an RV.
The City Council last month asked for a review of the ordinance, which the panel said it believed needed changes.

When RV (Recreational Vehicle) magazine guru Art Rouse decided it was time to downsize from his 38′ Alpine Motorhome, he started researching his options.
He concluded a Born Free Motorcoach manufactured in Humboldt was the right fit. Last Thursday, Art and Tony Rouse picked up their 26′ Born Free from Dodgen Industries.
“Even though I researched it thoroughly, seeing it in person for the first time today, it’s 100 times better than we expected,” Rouse said.

A 25-year-old Toledo man will be arraigned this morning after leading police on a 25-minute chase through Point Place. It started Tuesday night around 8:00pm at the corner of Central and Albion when police say they tried to pull over an RV driven by Timothy Kurth for an apparent hit and run. Officers say he drove away from them, leading them on a high-speed chase.
