The RV Manual Guide

Electrical Systems

Most motor homes have 2 batteries; one standard vehicle battery and one deep drain battery. The vehicle battery is used for normal engine operations while the deep drain battery is used to power the various electrical devices within the motor home, such as interior lights, the water pump, refrigerator, etc. The vehicles engine while driving charges this battery.

To use systems that require greater power, such as air conditioners or microwave ovens, an external power source is needed, such as an electric hook-up or generator.

In North America electricity is supplied in 110V/120V.

In Europe, Australia and Africa electric service is supplied in 220V/240V.

Every Dynamax luxury touring vehicle has several key features that help set it apart from all other motor homes.

Motorhome and pickup collide

Charges are pending in a two-vehicle collision that occurred Monday evening north of Lloydminster, sending two people to hospital with undetermined injuries.
The accident occurred west of the Deer Creek Bridge on Highway 3, involved a motorhome and a pickup truck and delayed motorists while the RCMP investigated the collision. The vehicles both had one occupant and while both drivers were originally rushed to Lloydminster for treatment, the driver of the pickup was airlifted to Saska toon.
“We’re waiting to interview the driver that got airlifted to Saskatoon,” said Sgt. Heinz Hauser of the Lloydminster Rural RCMP. “It’s at that point where we will decide if we will continue with charges or not. We’ve listened to the one side of the story, now we’re just waiting to hear from the other side.”
Initial investigation by the RCMP suggests the westbound motorhome collided with a northbound pickup truck that was attempting to cross the highway from a stop sign. Hauser said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
“Preliminary investigation is that one of the vehicles left the stop sign before it was safe to do so,” said Hauser. “If drugs or alcohol were a factor we would have been asking for a blood sample, and that was not done.”

Motorhome Manages to Start Six Fires

Investigators have determined a bike being pulled behind a motorhome started six fires near Payette yesterday. Now, the fires are contained, but at one time threatened several homes. The motorhome was traveling along Idaho 52 when the fires were started two miles east of Payette. The small fires eventually combined to form two wildfires that scorched 300 acres. Authorities did manage to stop the driver of that motorhome.

The RV movement’s on a roll

Six years ago, Carole and Eugene Brawner sold their home in Fredericksburg, Va., opting to live full-time in their motor home.

The Brawners, who started RV camping with their children in 1970, retired and were traveling most of the time before they decided to make the transition.

“It didn’t make sense to cut the grass, dust the vacuum and leave again,” said Carole, sitting near her RV with friends from her Colonial Virginians motor home group.

Gas or diesel?

Edited by Gary Brinck Technical Guru Richard Mater was asked: How does a diesel manage to do better? And while on the subject, when is the time to choose a diesel vs. gasoline? I know the diesel costs $10K or so extra and pulls better and gets better mileage and costs more to repair. Is the basic engine and chassis designed for longer life? In other words, if someone was going to buy “one last” coach for many years of use, or planned to really rack up the mileage…are they diesel candidates?
